Aviation is the day job
I'm Michael Trost. I sell aircraft for a living, so airspace, weather and safety are part of every working day. Trost Drone Services brings that same discipline to drone work: every flight is planned and authorized before the props spin.
Every job is flown on a DJI Mavic 4 Pro, with a 100-megapixel Hasselblad camera and two telephoto lenses for tight detail shots from a safe distance. A Mavic 2 Pro rides along as a backup, so a grounded drone never cancels your shoot.
Much of the Indianapolis area sits in controlled airspace around Indianapolis International and the region's towered airports. I handle the FAA authorizations, so you never have to think about it.

Common questions
Are you licensed?
Yes. Every flight is made under an FAA Part 107 remote pilot certificate, and I also hold an FAA commercial pilot certificate for manned aircraft.
Can you fly near Indianapolis International or other airports?
Usually, yes. Controlled airspace needs FAA authorization, which I request through LAANC before the flight. Some spots near runways have lower altitude limits, and I'll tell you up front if that affects the shots.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Wind over 20 knots, rain, snow or low clouds means we reschedule at no charge. Fall color and fresh snow make some of the best aerials of the year, so it's worth watching the forecast together.
Who owns the photos and video?
You get a license to use the files for marketing your property, event or business, in print and online. I may use selected shots in my portfolio unless you ask me not to.
Can you fly over a wedding crowd?
FAA rules limit flying directly over people who aren't part of the operation, so I plan angles and paths that capture the crowd from the side and above the venue instead. The telephoto lenses get close-up moments from a respectful distance, without a drone buzzing overhead.
